The Smart Choice for
your Flock
Decision Support Services, also known as DSS, provides specialised data processing and interpretation services customised for our producers.
Decision Support Services (DSS) is a management tool that forms part of BKB’s Smartstock program. By using data processing and analytics, DSS enables producers to make well-informed decisions, optimise their management practices, and ultimately enhance their profitability and productivity.
Fibre producers adopting this data-driven approach gain valuable insights that significantly impact their flock operations.
Evidence-based selections strengthen flocks, leading to increased production and overall productivity. As a powerful decision-making tool, DSS empowers producers to make informed
decisions, optimising flock management and yielding measurable results in the production process.
• Data-driven decisions increase revenue.
• Informed decisions, reduce uncertainty.
• Identifying areas for possible improvement.
• Identify producers and passengers.
Each animal needs to have identification to start with data collection.
Relevant data which has an economic impact on the business is collected from the animals. The data includes parameters such as weaning weight, fleece weight, fibre diameters (microns), mating weight, conception data and mothering up data.
The data is sent and imported into the DSS system, where it undergoes analysis and interpretation.
The processed data is interpreted, and meaningful insights are generated. The results are discussed with the client and their BKB Technical Advisor for decision-making.
Decisions are made based on the gathered information to determine possible adjustments that can enhance the production of the flock.
Our service offers three different packages: Lite, Lite+, and Full. This allows producers to choose the package that would best benefit their business.
The primary goal of DSS is to analyse the data gathered from farmers and interpret it to aid in their business decisions. This involves collecting important data points such as weaning weight, fleece weight, fibre diameter (in microns), mating weight, conception data, and mothering up data.
DSS is an additional tool that complements visual classing and reduces the guesswork. By utilising both techniques, farmers can make optimal and precise decisions. Through consistent measurement, effective management can be achieved.
